From Web Designer to Web Strategist
Lucas has called Cochrane home since 1981. He started designing websites in 1998, when few local businesses had one. From 1998 to 2000, he worked at Media Dog Productions in Calgary as a web designer and project manager. That role taught him to balance creative ideas with deadlines, budgets and client goals.
In 2001, Lucas founded BlindDrop Design in Calgary, and later brought the studio home to Cochrane. Early projects focused on branding, graphic design and custom websites for local businesses and community causes. In 2004, the Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce named BlindDrop its Business of the Year. The Cochrane Eagle described it as “a company whose job it is to make other people look good.”
As customers moved to search engines, Lucas shifted his focus toward SEO and measurable results. In 2008, he launched CochraneBusiness.com, a local directory that helps Cochrane businesses get found. In 2012, BlindDrop became a WP Engine partner. That added managed WordPress hosting, so client sites stay fast, secure and supported.
In 2025, Lucas brought more than 25 years of lessons together in the Optimized Web Marketing (OWM) framework. Today, he leads BlindDrop’s work in AI search and answer engine optimization. His approach stays practical. He builds on proven SEO, uses AI as a tool, and keeps a real person accountable for every result.
Outside client work, Lucas enjoys creative content production, including AI-assisted video. He also plays singing bowls.

“After over 25 years, my passion for web design and brand management continues to grow. I’ve seen massive change and am proud to have been a pioneer in the web design and marketing field since the 1990’s. I love the local and global aspects of this ever-evolving technology and I equally love working with local businesses and organizations and helping them succeed.
It’s why I founded BlindDrop in 2001 and coined that term to mean, in this context, to “Trust in the creative process.” This trust is required by both the creative and the client, to step into the unknown with curiosity and trust in the process. It’s what carries us through.”
